Diving with a humpback whale and her newborn calf while they cruise around Roca Partida … in the Revillagigedo [Islands], Mexico. This is an outstanding and unique place full of pelagic life, so we need to accelerate the incorporation of the islands into UNESCO as [a] natural heritage site in order to increase the protection of the islands against the prevailing illegal fishing corporations and big-game fishing.

Camping On The Diving Board
Photo and caption by Matthew Saville
As technology shrinks the world around us, it becomes more and more difficult to find ourselves truly lost in the outdoors. This makes those particular moments and scenes that much more special. Getting to the Diving Board was quite a challenge, as there is no official trail. For anybody who is prepared, careful, and respectful of nature, the reward is one of the most breathtaking views in all of Yosemite, in my opinion.

Aurora over Atigun Pass
Photo and caption by Fred Wasmer
A spectacular aurora appears above Atigun Pass, in the Brooks Range of northern Alaska, on the evening of March 21, 2015. Yes, the aurora color is real - there was no color added during editing; no increased saturation or vibrance. This is a 2-second exposure; the aurora was changing so quickly that the shapes were blurring at slower shutter speeds. It will be a long time before I forget this night.

After another iconic Pont des Arts bridge was cleared of the padlocks in 2010 (as a safety measure), people started to place their love symbols on this one. Today both of the bridges are full of love locks again.

Light Trails in Monument Valley
Photo and caption by James Hale
We arrived to this spot just before 5 pm in mid-October when the sun sets early. With the park closing at 5, all the tourists were leaving (the light trails are from the cars travelling the dirt road toward the main gate exit). We had plenty of time to set up tripods and work on the long exposure shots before leaving. I set the ISO at 100 since I knew I wanted the light trails via LE. My aperture was at 2.8, f10, focal length at 48mm (24-70

This photograph portrays the beginning and ending of a surf session at Playa Colorado in Nicaragua. To me this image encompasses two different perspectives of a surfer's lifestyle. The body language here emphasizes the energy levels in both surfers. The surfer leaving the water is clearly more fatigued and content with ending his session, while the surfer entering the water seems to be more abundant with energy as he races the sun for one last surf.

Dragon on the Mountain

The late afternoon sun shines down on the Gorner Glacier above the Swiss town of Zermatt. The radiant heat offers enough warmth to let algae grow in the snow and cast a pink hue with their growth. The seasonal weather also causes the ice to crack and melt, which causes rivers and waterfalls to form from the runoff and cascade down the giant rock face of Monte Rosa Massif.
